Royal Greenland - Based in Nuuk
About Royal Greenland
Royal Greenland is a global seafood company rooted in the Arctic and owned by the Government of Greenland. Sustainability is not an add-on to our business; it is a prerequisite for long-term value creation, responsible fisheries, and continued access to global markets. From responsibly managed fisheries to transparent supply chains and international sales, sustainability is deeply embedded in how we operate and how we compete.
With activities spanning Greenland, Europe, North America and Asia, Royal Greenland operates in a complex regulatory and commercial environment where sustainability performance increasingly defines market access, customer preference, and competitiveness.
Is this the role you are looking for?
Are you motivated by shaping sustainability at a strategic level?
Do you want sustainability to be a driver of commercial value, not just compliance?
Are you comfortable advising senior leaders on complex regulatory and strategic topics?
And are you intrigued by the idea of working close to the source, in the Arctic, where sustainability is tangible, not theoretical?
If these questions resonate with you, this role may be your next step.
About the job
As Global Sustainability Manager, you will lead Royal Greenland’s corporate sustainability agenda with a dual mandate: ensuring strong governance and regulatory compliance across global frameworks, while actively translating sustainability into commercial and operational value.
The Sustainability function sits within the Marketing & Sustainability organization, providing an independent, cross-company perspective that supports alignment, accountability, and credibility. You will report directly to the EVP, Marketing & Sustainability and work closely with our Executive Management Team (EMT) ensuring sustainability has strong visibility and influence at the highest levels.
You will lead our sustainability team of 2 persons.
Tasks and responsibilities
Identifying and managing sustainability initiatives that create measurable commercial value through efficiency, differentiation, risk reduction, and market access, through:
· Developing and executing Royal Greenland’s sustainability strategy in line with international standards and market expectations to deliver business outcomes
· Monitoring and interpreting global sustainability regulation (e.g. CSRD, EU Green Deal, packaging and EPR requirements) and translating this into clear guidance for the business
· Leading cross-functional initiatives to reduce environmental footprint across production, supply chain, logistics, and packaging
· Overseeing sustainability data, LCA, carbon footprinting, traceability, and reporting
· Leading and developing a small, specialized sustainability team and ensuring clear governance, KPIs, and accountability across the organization
About you
You have solid experience from a sustainability, ESG, or environmental role in a global organization and a strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and reporting requirements. You are comfortable working with senior stakeholders and can translate complex sustainability and regulatory topics into clear priorities and decisions.
You are analytically strong, commercially minded, and pragmatic in your approach to sustainability. You communicate clearly and confidently in both English and Danish, written and spoken. Knowledge of Greenlandic is an advantage, but not a requirement.
Experience from food, seafood, production, or resource-based industries is considered an advantage.
About Greenland
This position is based in Nuuk and offers a rare opportunity to live and work in one of the world’s most remarkable environments. Greenland is defined by vast landscapes, clean air, and a powerful sense of space, where mountains, fjords, sea ice, and wildlife are part of everyday life.
At the same time, Greenland is not for everyone. Nuuk is a small Arctic capital with a small community, limited anonymity, and fewer choices than large metropolitan cities. Life here requires curiosity, adaptability, and an appreciation for simplicity and proximity, to people, to nature, and to decision-making.
For those who thrive in smaller communities, Nuuk offers a unique combination of modern amenities, international colleagues, cultural life, and immediate access to outdoor activities such as hiking, sailing, fishing, skiing, and exploring the surrounding fjords. Daily life is characterized by short distances, strong social cohesion, and a high degree of trust.
Royal Greenland supports relocation (unless you already live here) and onboarding to ensure a thoughtful and smooth transition for you and, if relevant, your family.
Practical information
The position is full-time and based in Nuuk, Greenland. The role reports to the EVP, Marketing & Sustainability and includes global responsibility and collaboration across time zones.
Some international travel should be expected.
